Beyond Romances (Más acá de los romances)

Biographical snapshots telling and singing of the intellectual adventure of Ramón Menéndez Pidal, María Goyri and their daughter Jimena seeking the “new flowering of old romances”. Spain is the country of the Romancero, which has been compared to the Iliad – full of emotion, ingenuity and beautiful sensitivity, history and the character of a people who renew and preserve it. This formed the starting point for the Golden Age of Spanish theatre and then seduced romantics from all over the world, as well as inspiring the Spanish poets of the 20th century. Rediscovering it and taking it to the highest levels of academic interest and popularity was the labour of love of one family, a symbol of the Silver Age of Spanish culture. For the first time in the history of our theatre, audiences will see the exciting life of María, Ramón and Jimena.
